Testing Capabilities

CHARGE Lab is a cutting-edge facility dedicated to advancing electric vehicle technology through meticulous analysis and development of powertrain components. Our state-of-the-art infrastructure includes Test Cells 1 through 6, featuring high-speed, high-torque dynamometer test benches capable of handling speeds up to 17,500 rpm, torque outputs of 750 Nm, and power outputs of 275 kW. These test cells are specifically tailored for the evaluation of electric motors, inverters, and hybrid systems.

Complementing our dynamometer capabilities are battery simulators, precise measurement and data acquisition systems, DC and AC power supplies, and advanced cooling systems. These elements ensure comprehensive testing coverage for power electronics and energy storage components. Continual updates driven by active industry projects and collaborations keep us at the forefront of R&D testing excellence in North America.

Cell 5 within our lab stands out with its advanced chassis dynamometer, meticulously customized for testing hybrid and electric vehicles across diverse wheelbases. Utilizing a mechanically-linked roller system, this dyno accurately replicates flat, dry road conditions for both 2WD and AWD vehicles. It supports rapid development cycles for applications such as calibrations, electric power system analysis, controller development, efficiency testing, and energy consumption testing. Notably, this test setup also includes a “robot driver”, where independently controlled actuators manage the accelerator and brake pedals, enhancing vehicle-level testing precision.
